There is a war for your soul

Who are you?

Would you define yourself as a child of God?

Before you answer that, let me say, I understand that sometimes we think we don't qualify to be a children of God because of the things that we have done. (ex. Steal =thief, lie=liar) These days, we disguise ourselves and define ourselves by social media, money, clothes, and popularity. But who we are is really so much more than we could ever imagine.

Did you know that we are made up of spirit, soul, and body.

The soul is where we hold our feelings, will, emotions, and memories. The spirit is who we are. We don’t have a spirit, we are spirit, living in a body. The Spirit is trying to persuade your soul to FULLY rely on God and TRUST in his plan for your life. The body is reminding your soul of what happened to you, what people have said about you, what you have done, etc. So now, if you experience pain in your body, your soul remembers the feeling of being hurt and tells the body to avoid pain. But your spirit tugs at your soul, trying to remind you of who God says you are and what God says you can endure.

There is a war going on for your soul. You will either be led by the spirit or led by the body and its fleshly desires. The truth is, we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, but we can choose to deny the guidance of the spirit of God.

Ephesians 2:2 talks about those who deny God, they walk according to the ways of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the evil spirit that now works in the children of disobedience. So the question remains, who do you say you are? Are you a child of God or a child of disobedience?

Where are you from?

I'm not talking about what state you were born in, or where you live currently. I'm talking about your family. We all belong to a family whether you know all its members or not. We research our family history to learn facts about our ancestors in our bloodline, and we look at our family tree to learn about our genealogy, which traces immediate family members like our mother, father, siblings, etc. It's a good idea to ask your grandparents about your family’s past - where they came from, what they did, the trials they overcame, the accomplishments they achieved, and the dreams they had, so that you can connect more deeply with a sense of self.

The first chapter of Matthew speaks of the genealogy of Jesus and proves that much like us, Jesus did not descend from a perfect family. His family was full of good guys like Issac, deceivers like Jacob, kings, prostitutes, and leaders who were wise and weak. However, Jesus was still able to make a difference and change the world. God asks us to stand out in our family, not for ourselves but for the glory of God. Jesus inspires us to bring healing and hope into a world full of hurt and despair, and to show everyone they belong, because they belong to God.

As I did research on my family tree, I found that my parents, though I was only raised by my mother, were great people in their own ways. They had good intentions and loved their families and friends the best they knew how, but both had their own emotional wounds that impacted me and I can clearly see how the issues of shame, anger, addiction and isolation have been the emotional issues I have had to work on my whole life.

Your emotional issues are embedded in the history of your family tree. When you transform the problems and emotional breakdowns in your life, you are healing your family tree and you are breaking the cycles of suffering passed down from your ancestors.

Sometimes the stress of life has you wondering Why are you here? Why was I born?

You are here to help heal the world by healing yourself. I know your thinking, heal the world? I’m just a kid, but every child of God has the power to change the behaviors you learned not only from your parents, but from your parent’s parents.

What can you do?

You have the power to heal your family tree by identifying and binding the principalities, the powers, the world-rulers of this darkness, and the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

That’s right, the bible says, that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood (people), but against the principalities (evil kings), against the powers (evil authorities), against the world-rulers of this darkness(evil rulers over territories), against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (angels that turned from God) . These represent the spiritual strongmen that need to be bound up.

You have the power to bind the strong man and enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods. Luke 10:19 “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.”

God says, "Whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth [a]shall have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth [b]shall have [already] been loosed in heaven."

Galatians 5:19-24 says, "When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."

The bible teaches us to crucify the flesh, and when we get rid of the evil we must replace it with good so that the strongman wont come back and make matters worse. I challenge you to research the 16 demonic spirits listed in the bible and the scriptural prescription to restoration. Looking up the principalities and their activities, will help you determine if any of these spirits are operating in your family.
